Subscript

Subscript lowers text below the baseline — for chemical formulas, indices, and the like. Use the _ short-function with your content in brackets:

_[text]

Examples

Water is H_[2]O

The sequence a_[1], a_[2], a_[3], ...

The 2 in H_[2]O drops to subscript size and position, giving you a proper chemical formula.

Pairs with superscript

Subscript is the mirror of superscript: _[...] goes down, ^[...] goes up. Use both when you need indices and exponents in the same expression.
